Change Isn’t the Problem. The Wrong Change Is.

Why This Matters

Many of us chose to live here because this neighborhood offers something rare in Northern Virginia: easy access to shops, major roads, and DC, without giving up trees, wildlife, privacy, and quiet. The wooded land next to us isn’t empty. It’s a natural buffer that shapes how this neighborhood feels and functions every day.

Fairfax County is now reviewing a Special Exception application (SE-2025-FR-00044) to develop approximately 10.9 acres of that land into 86 age-restricted (55+) residential units in four-story townhomes. This is not yet approved. The review process is ongoing.

This is an institutional-scale development proposed in a single-family zone. The county has full discretion to approve or deny it.
If approved, it sets a precedent for similar proposals throughout the area using the Special Exception process.
On March 4, 2026, the KROC Board of Trustees voted 6-0 to direct legal counsel to draft a communication to Fairfax County opposing this development as submitted.
